Hi. Today I'm reviewing Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson. This is a really good book. It's about two siblings whose mother recently passed and so died. I hate the word passed. Why did I say that? Anyway, their mother recently died. They go to see the lawyer about this will and find out things about their mother that they never even began to suspect or imagine. And the story is essentially the story of the family, where the mother came from, how she ended up where she was. She's trying to explain this to her kids in a recording. It's all very interesting and the black cake is an important component of all this. It represents many things, but it mostly represents bringing the family together, and that's kind of the point of this book, and these kids kind of basically have to learn to grow up and deal with it.
That's kind of what it amounts to, but it's a very, very good story told in the most interesting way, from multiple perspectives and in very short chapters, which to me made a great combination. I love stuff like that because then I can just zip right through it. I feel like I'm just flying through the pages. So if you enjoy kind of like family saga type stories with most unusual backstories and interesting narrative structure, I think you'll enjoy this book, Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson. That is all, and I will talk to you later, Be seeing you.
