Hi. Today I am reviewing Double Barrel Bluff by Lou Berney. This was a really fun read and fast-paced and very suspenseful and I enjoyed it very much. The language the author uses is just perfect. The tone, the pace, all of it is just really nicely done. To give you a summary, the story is about a guy named Shake who used to work as a wheelman for the mob, for the Armenian mob in Las Vegas. And he thinks that he's retired from the life. He wants to retire from the life, or perhaps he has retired from the life for a while, but he and his former adversary are now married, settled down. Her name is Gina and she seems like a lovely young lady, or perhaps not so young lady. I dunno, I guess they're in the middle of midlife. In any event, I can't remember at this point because I read so many books.
Anyway, this one was really good and they're settled down until somebody shows up and says, Hey, you got to help me out with this situation I'm dealing with. And he's a really tough guy from his old life, from Shake's old life. So he's off to Cambodia to rescue ... there's some kind of hostage situation involving his ex-girlfriend of all things and the Armenian mob and a lot of mean people. So it's a load of fun and it's well worth reading. So I highly recommend Double Barrel Bluff by Lou Berney. If you enjoy kind of shady characters in difficult situations who want to get out of them, this is the book for you and has kind of a heist feel to it though. It's not a heist picture, heist book as such, or picture. It's a book. Anyway, I loved it and would recommend it for anybody who enjoys stories about life on the seedy side and people who are trying to get out of it. Yeah, there you go. That's it, and I will talk to you later. Thanks. And be seeing you!
