Let’s see where should I start with this movie?

I could tell you that the first 20 or 30 minutes are a bit of a snoozefest that more closely resembles a melodrama with singing than a film noir.

But I believe one bright spot during those opening scenes was the appearance of Eve Arden, everyone’s our favorite film noir wisecracking dame.

She shows up later, too. After the roughly 20-minute mark when our protagonist, Mike Angelo (which sounds so much like my husband’s last name, it sparked a running commentary about that) (we continued that conversation during the boring lead-up to the big show slower-moving parts of this flick) falls in love with The Wrong Dame. But that’s after he’s gone from being a boxer named Mike Angelo to a contented painter named Mike Gordon (either way, he’s played by Dane Clark).
