CHAPTER THIRTEEN

“I was looking for you,” Fisk said. “I see you’ve met Cheryl and Ariel’s kid. How about that Diedre?”

“Seems like a teenager.”

“And then some.” He shook his head. “I’ve got to tell you, apart from the obvious tragedy of Linda’s death, we may have a problem here. Her death means one less vote in favor of the appeal.”

He stopped and looked at me. “I hate to think in these terms, but we have to marshal all our resources if we’re going to keep the appeal going.

“I’m trying to get in touch with people who dropped from the group to try to persuade them to rejoin,” Fisk continued. “I’ve reached a few and they seem willing to reconsider their decision. However, there are two I haven’t been able to talk with. I’ve left messages for both of them but haven’t heard back. Would you be willing to follow up and find out why they won’t return my calls?”
